Get StartedIn 2014, the City of Centralia established the Centralia Transportation Benefit District (TBD) to fund transportation improvements within the city. These improvements include the general operation, maintenance, and repair of existing city streets, bridges, and other transportation infrastructure; traffic engineering and control to reduce congestion or improve safety and accessibility; and new projects such as extending or widening streets, adding bike lanes, and improving sidewalks and trails. If approved, this proposition would renew the existing 0.2% transportation sales and use tax for an additional ten years. The current total sales tax rate of 8.4% would remain unchanged. The tax would apply to all taxable purchases made within the city limits, including by visitors and non-resident shoppers. Revenue from the transportation sales and use tax can only be used for transportation projects within the city limits or as matching funds for state and federal transportation grants. Renewing the tax would provide continued funding for the City's repair, maintenance, and improvement program for streets, bridges, bike lanes, sidewalks, and trails.
The City of Centralia, acting as the Centralia Transportation Benefit District, adopted Resolution No. 2826 concerning a sales and use tax for transportation projects. This proposition would renew the current sales and use tax of two-tenths of one percent (0.2%) for an additional term of ten years, beginning January 1, 2026 and ending December 31, 2035 to fund transportation improvements, traffic engineering and control, and the general operation, maintenance, and repair of city streets, bridges, and other transportation infrastructure.
