Question 1 - Continuation of Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax for Education Purposes (ESPLOST)

Shall a special one percent sales and use tax for educational purposes be continued in Dade County for a pertod not to exceed twenty (20) calendar quarters beginning upon expiration of the sales and use tax for educational purposes presently in effect, and for the purpose of ralsing not more than $26,000,000 of net proceeds by said tax, which shall go to the Dade County School District for the purpose of (i) demolishing, adding to, renovating, repairing, improving, equipping, and furnishing existing school buildings or other buildings or facilities useful or desirable in connection therewith including, but not limited to, HVAC, roofing, electrical, paving, fencing, cafeterias and flooring; (ii) acquiring new technology equipment, software, security and safety equipment, and other school equipment; (ii) purchasing texibooks and band instruments; (iv) acquiring, constructing, and equlpping new school buildings and facilities, including a new multipurpose facility; (v) purchasing school buses, school vehicles, drivers education vehicles and maintenance equipment; (vi) acquiring land; and (vii) acquiring any property necessary or desirable therefore, both real and personal, with the maximum cost of the projects described in iterns (i)-(vii) payable from said tax being $26,000,000; (vii) paying any general obligation debt of the School District issued in conjunction with the imposition of such sales and use tax; and (ix) paying the expenses incident to accomplish the foregoing. If the imposition of the tax is approved by the voters, such vote shall also constitute approval of the issuance of general obligation debt of Dade County School District in the principal amount of $16,000,000 for the purposes of the Dade County School Dlstrict described in items (i)-(vii) and (ix) above and for the purpose of payment of a portion of the interest on such debt.
