Planned Parenthood of New Hampshire does much more than to offer women with counseling and options for the termination of a pregnancy. Planned Parenthood provides high quality, affordable health-care, birth control, LGBT care, pregnancy testing, and services, along with general healthcare for both men and women. These are vital services that must be protected nationally and in NH. Learn more
It is my belief that a women’s personal health decisions should be made by a woman, with counsel from family, friends, doctor, and clergy. I do not believe this is an issue that should be legislated by either our federal or state government. With the great possibility that Roe v. Wade will be overturned by the Supreme Court, the state legislature will have a key role to play in ensuring that women have access to safe and legal abortion. Women need access to affordable healthcare, including reproductive health care. It is imperative that we ensure the viability of Planned Parenthood, which provides quality healthcare to women throughout New Hampshire. Learn more
The high price of tuition is due in large measure to the low levels of state funding for our university system. New Hampshire’s state funding is less than half of the national average; the amount of money the state has allocated to the university system is down 20% over the last ten years. Universities have always played a key role in developing a talented workforce as well as the next generation of entrepreneurs. If our state legislature fails to adequately fund our universities, the impact on our economy will reverberate for years to come. Learn more
The Community College System of New Hampshire is doing an excellent job of providing innovative education, partnering with businesses in our community to train workers for the jobs of the future. White Mountain Community College President Chuck Lloyd is doing an excellent job of reaching out to employers in our area with the goal of providing affordable training and education to individuals who want a better future. More businesses need to do so to offer advancement to their employees. Inequality in income is significantly tied to educational levels. In order to change this, we need to ensure relevant and affordable education, at both the community college and university levels. Learn more
As your state representative, I will support legislation that migrates New Hampshire to new energy sources and which will slow the impact of climate change in our state. The solar and wind industries are each creating jobs at a rate 12 times faster than that of the rest of the U.S. Economy (Forbes Magazine, 2017). Governor Sununu and our state representatives should be looking to protect our environment and grow our economy by doing a better job of mitigating the impact of climate change right here in our state. It’s not a federal policy thing, its something that impacts all of us right here and now in New Hampshire and the Mt. Washington Valley. Learn more
I am a firm supporter of universal background checks that will not only apply to licensed gun dealers, but to the private sale of guns. I am also a supporter of Red Flag laws, which enable family, friends and law enforcement officials to ask the courts to provide restrictions on the use of firearms when there are warning signs of violence. I would like to see the age limit raised to 21 to purchase semi-automatic weapons, as statistics have shown that many of the mass shootings we have witnessed were committed by people under that age. Finally, I am in favor of a 48-hour waiting period for individuals applying to purchase a gun because of a large number of suicides that have been attributed to guns. The Department of Justice reports that over 60% of gun deaths are by suicide, and the waiting period could serve to significantly lower this rate. I believe that all of us need to meet in the middle to enact legislation to protect our communities. Children should not be afraid to go to school in New Hampshire or in any other state. We need to address these tough issues and pass legislation in the next legislative session. Learn more
Our own Memorial Hospital would have to bear the costs of treating these uninsured individuals. Many hospitals with a large number of poor and uninsured people in their communities will collapse, and others will struggle to meet these needs. The COVID-19 crisis has caused hospitals across NH and the country to have curtailed revenue-generating services, which will be an additional burden on small community hospitals. It’s time for bi-partisan solutions to providing our citizens with affordable healthcare, both in Washington and in Concord. There is too much at risk in failing to solve this problem; people’s lives are at stake at home and across the country. Learn more
