Get StartedWe need to codify reproductive rights. Since the Dobbs decision, the abortion rate has gone UP, mortality rates for both newborns and women have gone up, and the persecution of women is on the rise. Although the majority of Americans want safe, legal abortion nationwide, a small group of exttremists have pushed this issue through the Supreme Court leaving women in 14 states left with no options. The people understand we need abortion care for every women and I will do my part to make it law. Learn more
Leave No One Behind: Expanding TAP is a bill I have drafted which will expand the current exit program, TAP, for service members before they are discharged to include better and more thorough mental health screening. We cannot expect soldiers who have come home in pain to find services on their own or insult their sacrifice by handing them a pamphlet. Learn more
Although the VA has made great strides in improving mental health care, the current policy is not enough. We often forget to calculate the true cost of war, and tragically our veterans end up paying the price. Beyond the numbers for suicide, there are physical injuries and injuries that cannot be seen. Conditions like PTSD, anxiety and depression can lead to high rates of alcoholism and other substance abuse issues. The rates of homelessness, divorce and domestic violence are also higher than average for vets. Learn more
Subsidy policy must prioritize small and sustainable operations. Green and Blue Ammonia Fertilizer needs to funded for regional production all across the nation which will not only reduce toxins, it will keep the price down and create jobs. My bill Hemp! Hemp! Hooray! is designed to produce the multitude of byproducts from hemp including hemp blocks for building affordable, new housing which preserves our forests, creates jobs, and is a sustainable crop-based source for building materials. Grant funding for this type of manufacturing and processing of raw hemp on a regional level is a job creator and a benefit to the environment. Learn more
Eastern Washington’s small farms need a voice in Washington DC. As a young girl, I spent summers and vacations working on my aunt & uncle’s farm and she lived in rural Oklahoma a few years as a teen. I have seen the challenges small farms face firsthand. My dedication to serving the people who farm Eastern Washington and beyond is steadfast in creating innovative solutions that increase access to resources for small farms and cut through Bureaucratic Red Tape to ensure that family-owned businesses have equal access to support and a forward thinking investment in our nation’s food supply. Create or fund more after-school programs. Especially for children of working parents to reduce babysitting costs and provide at risk kids a place to go. Reverse the 1997 decision to privatize college loans. School loans are interest free. Learn more
Prepare students for the AI job market. Expand public school to include pre-K. Society has changed and we need education and childcare to change with it. This would elected and not mandatory and would have a voucher system for qualifying daycare centers. Learn more
Pass on Plastic is another farm-related bill I have written which not reduces single use plastics, creates grants for plastic recycling and re-use businesses and stimulates businesses in wheat straw packaging, wheat bio-plastic or molded fiber packaging using leftover wheat stocks and husks. Eastern Washington is rich in natural beauty. From golden hills, to lakes, to forests. We live in an area that has something for everyone. Human beings have lived off of the land since the beginning of time. Our resources are limited and we need to make sure that they are properly managed and protected for our benefit, our survival, our safety as well as the sustainability and health of our only planet. That’s why we need to protect our environment and preserve the balance of our ecosystems. I am committed to finding solutions that foster investment in our communities, as well as protect our precious natural resources and keep Eastern Washington safe and healthy for future generations. American tax money through grants and our own NIH, invent 99% of all new medications which we then paten to private companies who then pay for testing, FDA approval, manufacturing and marketing. But they sell to Americans at 3 to 4 times they cost. The vertical market monopoly costs us more and produces lower outcomes. The first thing “We the People” need to do is change the patent laws before we sell to a company and the second thing is to bring bargaining power back to the people. Once a company buys a patent, it spend a lot of money to get it to market. I want these companies to make a decent profit – AS LONG AS THEY’RE NOT KILLING US. Learn more
A national, single payer program that is patterned after the system in Singapore is my goal for universal healthcare and the majority of Americans now support this idea including republicans. What has held us back from this extremely popular policy in corporate PAC money in Congress. Democrats and Republicans alike are padding health care to protect the monopolies that drive costs up and they limit bargaining power. The system is not built to protect American lives; it is built to protect profits. American healthcare is a standoff controlled by corporations who say, “You’re money or your life”. Learn more
We need to get serious about rail and other forms of public transport and makes plans in every industry that relies on oil to move away from its use. Transportation is the largest contributor and we start with fleet vehicles owned and operated by the government and provide incentives that have an expiration date that meets market supply to push demand. This must be reinforced with programs to create a network of charging stations unlike prior bills that have been a disappointment. R&D must work to increase efficiency to meet new, higher public standards and we need to research ways to retrofit or decrease output of older vehicles as those that can not afford to buy new will keep old cars on the market until the used market grows to meet demand. A tax credit for expanding your workforce year over year and increased investment in grants and small business loans directed to sectors that need growth like sustainable manufacturing and farming, new building materials like hemp blocks (My bill, Hemp! Hemp! Hooray! covers this), plastic recycling and re-use (My bill Pass on Plastic covers this), clean energy production and increased energy efficiency. Learn more
Any minimum wage increase over 15 should be coupled by a FICA honeymoon for small businesses under one million dollars gross on a sliding scale of net payroll. Learn more
