Borough Council spent 4.5 million to purchase the Southgate Shopping Center, a decision I disagree with. The property was appraised at roughly half of what the Borough paid and that money could have instead been used to fund other essential projects. However, now that the purchase has been made, we must find a way to turn this situation into a positive for our community. I propose developing a strategic plan to sell the property, relieving the Borough of this burden, while ensuring the site is used to support the growth and revitalization of downtown Chambersburg. I’m proposing the creation of the Chambersburg Efficiency Commission. This commission will be composed of local experts who care deeply about our community and will conduct a thorough, department-by-department review to identify cost-saving measures.
