Congressman Sherman understands that the Armenophobia that fomented the Armenian Genocide isn’t a thing of the past: over 120,000 Armenian refugees from Artsakh remain displaced by Azerbaijan’s 2023 ethnic cleansing. That’s why Congressman Sherman has fought to enforce Section 907 of the Freedom Support Act, which would cut off U.S. Military assistance from Azerbaijan, including by forcing a vote to do so in the House Foreign Affairs Committee in September of 2025. Additionally, Congressman Sherman cosponsors the federal Ethan’s Law, a bill named after 15-year-old Ethan Song, who was accidentally killed by an unsecured firearm. Ethan’s Law would require families with children to securely store firearms. Learn more
Congressman Sherman also is a cosponsor of the Federal Extreme Risk Protection Order Act which encourages states to pass “red flag laws” and similarly allows federal courts to issue “extreme risk protection orders,” where family members or law enforcement can petition the court to have firearms removed from an individual that has shown intent to harm themselves or others.
