The men and women of our local police and fire departments are true heroes. Every single day they head off to their shifts not knowing what they will face on the job. I am proud of my husband Paul’s service as a firefighter, and I know what it’s like to worry about a loved one when they are away from home working their shift. I will always work to ensure our first responders receive the pay and benefits they deserve and have the infrastructure and equipment to get their jobs done in the safest manner possible, and I will always oppose efforts to defund our first responders. I also pledge to support efforts to create a public safety building authority in the Commonwealth that will help lessen the financial burden that improved public safety facilities present to our towns and cities. Between the temporary closure of Brockton Hospital and the ongoing financial crisis at Steward Healthcare impacting Good Samaritan Medical Center and providers around the region, our region has been ground zero for the Commonwealth’s health care crisis. I applaud the Healey-Driscoll administration's efforts to reduce the impact of Steward’s poor decision making on patients in our region, and if elected I plan to get to work right away to figure out a plan to ensure that what has happened with Steward cannot happen again while also ensuring that Boston Medical Center, the new owner of Good Samaritan, is accountable to the local residents who depend on their care. I am proud to have the support of the Massachusetts Nurses Association and 1199 SEIU which represents other vital health care workers in this campaign and promise to always work to ensure that patients, nurses, and other vital hospital workers have a seat at the table.
