As a nurse for 20 years, I don’t want to settle at expanding healthcare access; I want to change how it runs. I want to dismantle vertical integration monopolies. In health insurance this happens when a single company owns multiple stages of the supply chain. For example, a company like UnitedHealth Group owns the insurance plan, the PBM, the pharmacies, and the doctors. Vertical integration causes increased costs, loss of choice, and no improvement in quality. We will open the state health insurance plan up to everyone (KeldaCare). Fully expand Medicaid. Increase supply of homes the average person can afford. This can be a combination of smaller single-family homes, cooperative buildings, or community land trusts. We need more of our neighbors gaining equity in their own homes, instead of funneling hard earned money to landlords. Everyone agrees we need more affordable housing, but no one wants it in their backyard. Instead of leaving zoning reform to localities, we need to combat nimbyism at the state level.
