The price of childcare in California has grown to the point where it’s become a luxury for many, with average costs up to 24,000 per year. With the cost of living rising while wages remain stagnant, parents are forced to work longer hours, making it seemingly impossible for single parents to make ends meet. California should uplift working families, and everyone should have the ability to raise a family without stressing about childcare costs. I will propose legislation that makes childcare a universal right for everyone in this state, not only for those who can afford it. Learn more
Our state needs to increase its investments in renewable energies such as solar and wind power. I will always support measures that aim to invest in renewable and sustainable energy, and against corporate subsidies for the oil and gas industries. Learn more
Climate change doesn’t begin and end with fires - despite its “green” reputation, California has green-lit multiple offshore drilling projects, as well as funded gas and oil companies to expand oil drilling in our state. Private equity firms purchase and intentionally leave buildings vacant to artificially inflate the property values of the surrounding areas. These practices have made it virtually impossible for people to own a home. Housing should never be a speculative asset - it is a necessity like food and water, and needs to be separated from private equity. I will advocate for creating more social housing and against private equity firms’ ability to inflate real estate prices, to ensure that no one is priced out of their own neighborhood. Learn more
Every night, nearly 187,000 people sleep on the streets of California, and the number one contributor to homelessness in California is its lack of affordable housing. I will push legislation to create social housing to place people into permanent housing and offer services, such as mental health evaluations and substance rehabilitation. No more temporary fixes or half-measures; no one should sleep on the streets when billionaires own multiple homes and yachts. Learn more
ICE will never be welcome in California. To protect our immigrant communities, we must ABOLISH ICE. To aid our neighbors, I support increasing funds to help those facing deportation gain access to legal counsel. The US immigration courts are built to dehumanize people forced through their system - an incredibly complex one by design - to stack the odds against having a fighting chance. Access to legal counsel decreases the likelihood of deportation, helping to protect anyone and everyone who calls California “home.”. Learn more
Even local authorities have collaborated with ICE agents to apprehend our neighbors, sharing personal data to corner and capture innocent people. This is absolutely unacceptable, and it needs to end now! I firmly believe that any officer who actively collaborates with ICE or the National Guard should be relieved from duty. When police work with ICE, they destroy the very communities they swore to protect and serve. I will always vote and legislate to increase housing density, robust public transit, and safer bike lanes. Urbanization in our towns and cities will save this state. California is the same size of Japan and Los Angeles is a bit smaller, in terms of square miles, than Tokyo. There is no reason why we cannot have the same density and infrastructure as them. Raising taxes on billionaires and the largest corporations is a necessity. Over 200 billionaires live in California, and several companies valued at over 1 trillion are headquartered in the state. There is no reason that they cannot afford to pay their fair share of taxes towards the benefit of California, including to the workers who helped to generate their wealth. We need a system that uplifts the working-class people who have made California great, not the ultra-wealthy.
