Ensuring that our communities remain affordable for our teachers, our nurses, our first responders, our agriculture workers, our tourism workforce, and everyone that makes our communities run has been and will continue to be my top priority. Colorado has no problem attracting residents, and for those of us that grew up here, like me, there is a lot that keeps us here. Yet, there is so much more that we need to do so that all Coloradans can continue to live here and prosper from our state’s opportunities. Learn more

No society will be successful without providing a quality public education to the next generation. Unfortunately, Colorado is near the bottom of the fifty states for for public funding for K-12 and higher education. No student should ever be penalized with a sub-par education solely because of the state or zip code in which they live. Colorado can do better. As your Senator, you can depend on me to find ways to improve our state’s support for public schools and teachers, modernize our classrooms, and ensure that every student is given the opportunity to succeed by fully-funding our K-12 education system and paying teachers more. Further, too many Coloradans do not have access to higher education because of cost alone. If students take out loans to pay for a degree, they find themselves crippled with debt for decades. At the legislature, we have a responsibility to find every way possible to make higher education affordable. As leaders, we also must recognize that a four-year college degree should not be the only way to success in our society. We can do much more to promote community colleges and vocational education. I will always support legislation that provides the opportunity for students to go to college or pursue vocational training at an reasonable price. Learn more

Colorado is the most beautiful state in the nation because of its natural beauty. This is not something we can take for granted and we need bold leaders at the Capitol who understand that drought, wildfire, and climate change are threats to outdoor recreation opportunities, the agricultural industry, and our livelihoods. Western Slope residents pay the healthcare highest premiums in the state and this needs to change. Our state must continue to act to help the residents of this district and all Coloradans have access to affordable health care. We have made significant progress over the last few years to lower health insurance costs, reduce the price of prescription drugs, and help local health care co-ops get up and running. However, I will continue to make affordable healthcare my priority until every Coloradan and every small business have access to high-quality, affordable health care coverage. Further, behavioral and mental health care is of the utmost importance to our region and our state. I will continue to advocate for the expansion of mental health resources in our rural communities and pass needed reforms so that our mental health funds are spent properly and efficiently. Repairing and preparing our infrastructure for the millions of Colorado citizens that rely upon it must be one of the legislature’s top concerns. The vitality of I-70 is of particular importance to economy of Northwest Colorado, and we need to make sure that we maintain safe and efficient roadways. Infrastructure improvement should be a bipartisan issue: strong infrastructure creates jobs, boosts local economies, keeps people safe, and at its most basic level, keeps you from sitting in traffic. I will continue to work with my colleagues across the aisle on legislation to revitalize our state’s roads to create more jobs and increase driver safety. Further, parts of Northwest Colorado still do not have access to high-speed internet access. Our legislature needs to lead on this issue to provide all corners of our state access to this crucial service. Learn more
