The growing crisis of Opioid abuse, and the resulting death rate, is a blight on our community and for our state. The easy availability of not only heroin, but of prescription drugs like fentanyl, oxycodone, codeine, and methadone is the root cause of this crisis and caused thousands of people to die premature deaths in Maryland. Dr. Jay believes that we need to invest in our children’s education and implement the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future to create a progressive learning environment for every child in our school system, because students of all ages deserve full and fair access to an internationally competitive high-quality public education that meets the demands of the 21st century workplace. Dr. Jay would support utilizing a combination of tax incentives, expanded Pell Grants, and a streamlined loan application process, to make college education more affordable. He hopes to tear down the barriers that are contributing to our nation’s increasing income inequality and hurting our economic growth by helping students from low and middle class working families obtain higher education. As an immigrant to the United States, Dr. Jay knows that America is a nation of immigrants and also a nation of laws. He understands that our current immigration policy is flawed and must be changed to meet the needs of the 21st century. As your representative, Dr. Jay will work for a full and comprehensive overhaul of our immigration policy that protects our homeland, secures our borders, and also offers a clear path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants who have lived peacefully in this country and have proven to be productive members of our American society. Dr. Jay would support the full implementation of the BMORE BUS plan proposed by MTA in June 2025, which aims to improve the public transportation system by increasing bus routes, linking different public transport options like the Metro and Light Rail, and providing complimentary bus shuttle service for certain areas.
