Economy

As a mother of three, I have always cared deeply about making sure that hard-working families in Wisconsin have access to quality, affordable childcare, but as anyone with young children knows, finding it is almost impossible. Parents face limited options, and childcare providers struggle to keep their doors open. When childcare is not available to parents, it means reduced hours or parents leaving the workforce, hurting families. It's time for Wisconsin to be a leader in childcare and to support our hardworking families and children. Wisconsin must do better by its families and children. In the State Assembly, I have championed legislation that supports childcare providers, children, and families. I support legislation that lowers costs for middle-class families and supports small businesses, like childcare providers. Education

As a parent of a traditional learner, an advanced learner, and a special education learner, public education is very important to me. Wisconsinites value education, yet our public schools have been repeatedly starved of much needed revenue and support. This is true in the 17th Senate District, which leads the state in school referendums. Under-funding our public schools risks the success of our children. Under-funding our public schools puts classes like trade and tech ed at risk. The 2019 bipartisan Blue Ribbon Commission on School Funding made several recommendations. Those recommendations have been rejected in the three budget cycles since. We must provide teachers and staff with the resources they need. We must provide children with the public education they deserve. And, we must provide Wisconsinites property tax relief. In the Senate, I will work with parents, teachers, advocates, and my colleagues, to prioritize public school funding. The legislature must do its part to fund our public schools. Learn more

Environment / Energy

Every Wisconsinite deserves clean air, safe drinking water, and healthy soils. As your senator, I will fight for policies that protect our district and the state. This includes supporting the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Fund and funding farmer-led Watershed Protection Grants. Learn more

Healthcare

Every Wisconsinite should have access to quality, affordable health care. This includes mental health care and dental care. Our district has seven hospitals and even more clinics and nursing homes. We must keep that network strong so that no matter where you are in our district, you can get health care. Learn more

Housing

In the past 25 years, housing costs have skyrocketed, but wages have not kept up. Nearly one third of renters in this area spend more than 30% of their income on housing. If we want to make sure people can afford to stay in their homes, we need to tackle the problem in several ways. Increasing the housing supply, making housing programs easier to navigate, and increasing wages are just a few of the options available to us. Learn more

Wages / Job Benefits

When I got my first job as a waitress, minimum wage was 5.15 per hour. Almost 30 years later our minimum wage has increased only 2.10 - the amount someone who can earn tips gets. We must increase the minimum wage so that folks can afford housing and meet their other basic needs. Learn more
