Joe believes parents know what is best for their children. Our public education system requires basic reform to restore parents to the center of being responsible for their children’s education. Likewise, he believes our school system must understand its basic function is to support parents by educating their children. Too many educational decisions are made by a centralized authority with not enough input from parents. Parents must have a say in where their children are educated. This is the key to obtaining more participation from the parent. This is a complicated public policy challenge but addressing this will be necessary if we wish to improve educational outcomes in the future. Learn more
Our schools are training fields for our young citizens, not a place where children are to be indoctrinated. The educative process should focus upon teaching common core subjects, values, and the American civic creed, as well as a rigorous adherence to “how” to think versus “what” to think. Allowing critical race theories and “woke” social concepts to replace a basic focus upon fundamentals has contributed to our failing public schools. The effect of this varies widely across the state; however, it is a problem, even within our own local schools. Learn more
Joe supports the SAVE Act (Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act) legislation working its way through Congress this year. He believes we must be vigilant to secure our elections by cleaning up voter registration rolls, requiring photo identification, and requiring the use of paper ballots. Non-citizens are not allowed to vote and this must be more effectively proscribed. Joe would support returning our elections toward an Election Day – versus an election season. Election Day should be considered a civic holiday and we must foster the notion it is an important day for all Kentuckians. Learn more
We need more housing in all categories and income levels but especially in affordable housing. Joe is committed to working with local leadership in Hardin and Meade Counties to do something in advance of the state’s efforts to address this affordability issue. It’s critically important to understand we were short on affordable housing prior to Nucor’s arrival. Joe considers it a “no-brainer” that we would support securing our nation’s borders and keeping those secure. More importantly, he supports the efforts of law enforcement at every level, including the Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE). Most illegal aliens among us came here for a better life and only desire to earn their way while here. However, there is a significant minority who migrated after their release from prisons abroad and we don’t have an immigration system which can tell the difference. Until the system can do that, illegal aliens must be processed for deportation, beginning with the obvious criminal element. Learn more
The Kentucky state legislature will not participate in re-writing our immigration laws, policies, and procedures. However, Joe supports our federal government establishing and maintaining control of our borders while Congress eventually reforms our laws to effectively admit people who come here to seek legitimate opportunities to better themselves and their families. The federal government would regulate the types and numbers of such people allowed to work in our country. A pathway to citizenship can never be afforded to anyone who entered the country illegally. Joe believes our state representative can play an instrumental role in requesting assistance from the state government to support improving our local infrastructure – water, sewer, power, and roads – to support our future. Learn more
Joe believes state spending should focus upon three broadly identifiable areas: public health and safety, infrastructure, and training (education). Resources spent outside of these areas should receive increased scrutiny. Our state legislature is already moving us toward eliminating income taxes and Joe believes this is a good thing! Next, we must consider ways to reduce property taxes levied upon our citizens’ real property. Cutting government spending is the key to further cutting taxes. Learn more
