As guardian ad litem, I have advocated for LGBTQ students (minors) facing horrible treatment due to their gender identity. Every child’s basic right to learn in a safe and respectful environment is the cornerstone of my public education policy. I support a multi-pronged approach to ensure that the state protects access to public education and pays its fair share to local school districts. Support the development, implementation, and funding of a centralized and standardized state reporting system to alert schools when an employee engages in misconduct as defined by the VA criminal code. Learn more
Support multiple pathways to graduation, including workforce readiness, removing the stigma attached to choosing nontraditional paths, focusing on growth rather than testing, improving access to experiential learning, and providing funding to provide certifications and dual enrollment during high school. We all need clean air, water, and land and it is best to develop a thriving clean energy-based economy. This should include large investments in job training programs for renewables, building and energy-efficient, smart grid residential, and commercial energy efficiency.
