Public education is the backbone of our society and must be appropriately funded. Public education includes traditional public schools, Charter Schools and the Virtual Learning Academy. Each type of school has a formula for determining the amount of State dollars received. For example, there are additional dollars for special education students, children qualifying for free and reduced lunch along with a variety of other items. In addition to public education students are also home schooled and the State offers Education Freedom Accounts. Each child receives a set amount of dollars to be used for their education. The base aid this school year is 4,265. Additional dollars are provided if a student qualifies for free and reduced lunch, is a special education student as well as an English language learner. Everyone living near a lake or river has a responsibility to keep chemicals from polluting nearby lakes and rivers. Cyanobacteria blooms, e coli, runoff and pollution are mostly manmade problems. We can fix this by being extremely careful about how we treat our environment. Learn more
It is essential that everyone in the state has confidence in their drinking water. There has been a focus on eliminating PFAS and the state has made great progress. A recent settlement with 3M and Dupont will bring additional dollars to the state to clean up drinking water. There is also an ongoing testing program that is looking for contaminants in private wells. I cannot stress enough the need for homeowners with private wells to test for contaminants. Learn more
There is no question the housing stock in New Hampshire is woefully inadequate. Conway has several apartments either open for rent or will be soon. How affordable they are is up to the individual renter. We must continue to work with the MWV Housing Coalition to continue to promote affordable housing. Learn more

It is always difficult to balance the State budget. There are often unmet needs throughout the State Government. No agency or program receives all the money they request. It is truly a balancing act to ensure the needs of every agency are met. Health and Human Services and Education are most often in the news, but budget writers also must focus on Corrections, Dept of Information Technology, Human Rights Commission, Veteran’s Home and a myriad of other agencies, Commissions and Boards. The House and Senate must prioritize state spending based on projected income and make sure the State lives within its means, just as every household must do. Learn more
