I will continue to fight to keep the proposed landfill from opening on the edge of Lee's Summit. I co-sponsored bills, spoke out against the development and worked closely with colleagues on both sides of the aisle to oppose the proposal. This landfill would put the health of thousands of residents and school kids at risk, would devastate property values, and would end residential and commercial growth in southern Lee's Summit. I have been working for solutions to Jackson County's unfair reassessment process and to look for ways to help seniors stay in their homes. I filed a bill to cap reassessments on residences and voted to make the county assessor an elected position. I filed a bill to improve the current Missouri Senior Property Tax Credit and voted for the property tax freeze for seniors and the elimination of state taxes on Social Security income. But our essential state services need funding, so I have fought against proposals like eliminating the corporate income tax, which would shift the taxation burden back onto middle income taxpayers.
