Though I have joined my colleagues in the decades-long fight to fully fund Foundation Aid and we have achieved that necessary funding, there is still much work necessary in the days ahead to ensure that all schools have the access to resources that support students’ academic and social and emotional success. We also need to continue to demand a New Deal for CUNY that will make tuition free again for students who are New York City residents. Learn more
In the Assembly, I am dedicated to advocating for environmental justice alongside my colleagues in government and environmental advocates and activists. We are fighting for a Green New Deal for Southeast Queens, a restoration and rebuilding of NYCHA focused on sustainability, and protections to address the pressing issue of climate change. I’ve introduced legislation calling for a green air travel tax on passengers flying over communities like ours, which experience disproportionate air noise pollution because of their proximity to airports. I am dedicated to continuing to fight for housing justice that will ensure that Assembly District 31 residents and all New Yorkers are guaranteed housing and a dignified quality of life. I believe that we should give housing vouchers to all New Yorkers so that everyone has a place to live and am committed to continuing to introduce and co-sponsor legislation and promote community initiatives that will ensure tenant protections and eliminate roadblocks to Black and brown homeownership. We live in a transit desert that makes it tremendously difficult for Assembly District 31 residents to go to work and school — as an advocate and activist, and now as an Assembly Member, addressing long-standing transit inequities has been a major priority. Learn more
