Get StartedIt's time we start treating farming as the major commercial sector it is in Maryland. One place to start is for the state and county to stop allowing one industry to push out an existing major industry (agriculture). We need to change the script if the goal is to preserve the farming industry to support diversification of their business, enter into agreements with the state and county to ensure agricultural space is protected for the next generation of farmers, and provide for agricultural options for retirement, health insurance, and job security. Starting with fully funding agriculture preservation and land preservation programs. We can also change the zoning laws so that local land use decisions cannot shift zoning on a whim. Learn more
Paying our teachers a livable wage that keeps up with inflation. Every child should feel safe and protected at school - physically, mentally, emotionally - regardless of background, ethnicity, gender identity, or race. Balancing statewide standards with teacher autonomy to better meet students’ individual needs. Maryland deserves a world-class school system that is both excellent and affordable for everyday citizens. Learn more
We also need to find a reliable and responsible way to balance Maryland’s energy generation, transmission infrastructure, grid reliability, and affordability with the equally important need to protect agricultural land and preserve working farms. Let's be clear, this is a balance between two commercial industries. Learn more
Require data centers to cover the unanticipated county expenses of water usage, road maintenance, pollution monitoring, and fire & safety equipment and training. Require utility companies to establish commercial data center rates higher than standard commercial rates. Establish state of the art monitoring of air and aquifer quality near a data center. Expand funding for state rural and agriculture preservation programs, because if farmland is not under a preservation program the zoning can be changed at anytime. Learn more
Repeal tax exemption on sale of personal property for data centers (2026 HB560) established under the 2020 bill SB397/CH640. Reinstate requirements for data center back up systems to meet the Public Service Commission requirements. Require all data centers in Maryland to use Tier IV or better standards for their diesel generators. Require data centers to be self-sufficient in their water and power consumption, as required in other states and countries. Learn more
Starting with public financing for all elections. This would severely limit how much could be spent on a campaign, the funding sources, and enable qualified non-millionaires to run for office. The current notion that viable candidates are those who can raise money shifts the focus from whether the candidate is actually qualified to do the job. Furthermore, we need to add rank choice voting, term limits, and limit elections to 8 weeks for the primary and an additional 8 weeks for the general election. All of these measures will level the playing field for true representation of all people in our elections. Learn more
Accountability and transparency in our law enforcement procedures. All law enforcement personnel need to abide by our laws. They must meet the basics of identifying themselves, state why they are arresting someone, and provide the person with their Miranda rights. Above all, ICE agents need to stop violating our laws by arresting people based on skin color, accent, food they are eating, or where they live. Public safety and civil rights must go hand in hand. No one is above the law. Right now, our immigration laws are not being applied in an equal, fair, or moral way. ICE, specifically, acts like they are above the law. This needs to stop. No government agency gets to choose who has Constitutional rights in the United States. Our immigration system must follow the constitution’s requirements in a lawful, orderly, and humane way. Everyone gets equal protection under USA laws. This is a core American principle and a responsibility of our government at every level. Learn more
Next, it is essential that we modernize and streamline the laws and regulations around agriculture options for diversification such as processing facilities, local supply chains, and value-added agriculture. Learn more
We should all be working on options to raise state income, streamline state programs, or reduce the costs of federal policies on Maryland and the citizens of Frederick County. Learn more
