Get StartedOne effective alternative to punitive speed cameras is radar speed indicators next to the posted speed limit signs so motorists can self-regulate their driving speed in a voluntary, non-punitive manner. This sensible, citizen-friendly approach would respectfully alert motorists to moderate their speed, without creating the fear and distraction of a speed camera trap with its automatic fine. In the Maryland State Senate, I would work to repeal the law that authorizes these unnecessary and punitive speed camera devices. Learn more
While a small number of serious offenders must be securely isolated from society, many minor offenders will not benefit from long, punitive sentences. We should therefore find ways to reduce the large population of these non-violent offenders in prison, such as by de-criminalizing marijuana use, and establishing voluntary treatment programs for drug addiction. In addition, many non-violent criminals could be safely removed from harm to society through home-based confinement using monitoring devices or in supervised assisted living facilities. Learn more

Protecting the Chesapeake Bay aims primarily to prevent pollutants to flows in the Bay from industry and commerce conducted on the surrounding land areas. For this, the priority need is to clean up the sludge buildup where the Bay begins at the Conowingo Dam. Beyond that, we must prevent bad practices elsewhere on the land and waterways, but without undue burden to farmers and watermen. For example, we must end so-called “rain tax” and other excessive taxing on property owners and businesses as related to reasonable land use. Learn more
Reducing the prison population and the presence of repeat offenders in society can also be achieved by closer cooperation with federal immigration authorities (ICE). This cooperation involves, for example, the identification and removal of illegal aliens in local custody to ICE for their processing and enforcement of pertinent federal immigration laws. Maryland should not be a haven to protect and promote the presence of these illegal aliens to foment unnecessary crime and gang violence in society. Learn more
