Agriculture is one of the largest industries in Michigan’s Thumb. In Congress, I work to protect our farmers from harmful regulations that impact their land use and water rights as well as their bottom line. Farmers are the best stewards of their land and should be the ones to determine how they farm it — not bureaucrats in Washington. To strengthen our agricultural industry, I will continue pushing for trade agreements that benefit our farmers. This will increase exports, promote competition, and lower food prices. The Great Lakes are a precious natural resource and economic engine that must be protected. I oppose any large or small-scale diversion of water outside the Great Lakes basin. Whether it is stopping Asian Carp, other invasive species, or high-water levels, I will continue to work on finding solutions that protect, preserve, and strengthen the Great Lakes for future generations to enjoy. I am a strong defender of the 2nd Amendment. I strongly support an individual's right to own guns, which is clearly protected by the Constitution. I believe the 2nd Amendment enables law-abiding citizens throughout the country to own firearms to protect themselves and their families. I oppose federal licensing of law-abiding gun owners and national gun registration. Since I began serving as your Representative in Congress, I have completely opposed any action that puts any level of restrictions on our right to keep and bear arms. I will always be a champion for freedom and a fierce defender of our Constitutional rights. The Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) in its current form is not affordable for the vast majority of American consumers. Millions of people have decided they no longer can afford health insurance under this disastrous law. It drives up premiums and deductible costs for individuals, families, and employers. It also fuels waste, fraud, and abuse. To fix it, we need to reintroduce more competition to the market and ensure patient-centered solutions that will drive down costs. Allowing health care coverage to be purchased across state lines by individuals and small businesses will create stronger competition among insurance companies, lowering costs for the consumer. Another component would be to expand the use of health savings accounts. I believe a combination of free-market solutions will make health care more affordable and accessible for Michiganders. There is a mental health crisis in our country. As of 2024, nearly a quarter of all adults in the United States have experienced mental illness in the past year alone. This troubling statistic is becoming even more prevalent in our children, and much more needs to be done about it. In Congress, I have been honored to serve as Co-Chair of the Bipartisan Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder Task Force where I have the opportunity to work across the aisle with my colleagues to find solutions.
