Many Texans have moved to Alberta to work in the Oil & Gas industry and have done well economically. The Alberta system preserves independent physicians and choice of doctors. We know it can work. Raise the minimum wage to $12.50 an hour ($25,000/year for a person working full time fifty weeks a year) and adjusted it for inflation thereafter. Employers that fail to pay a fair basic wage count on taxpayers to step up and pay for SNAP benefits. States that have increased their minimum wage have seen employment and GDP growth increase above the national average. Providing working people with a fair wage is in everyone’s best interest.
