Get StartedA recent outcry over a local library’s proposed LGBTQ-friendly programming exposed significant hostility to LGBTQ people and issues in the district. NYS has passed historic LGBTQ-rights bills, but that is not enough. Our district deserves a representative who will speak out and condemn LGBT-directed prejudice. Meg stands with the LGBTQ community and will be an outspoken advocate for equal treatment and rights. Learn more
Meg feels strongly that all children deserve a high-quality public education, which is a fundamental right. New York currently ranks 49th in the nation’s inequity in school funding. For years, some of the district’s public schools have not received the educational resources that the state has promised. With schools closed, most of the area’s students are continuing their education online, but not all students in struggling districts have access to online learning. Investing in public education is of paramount importance. Meg will be a positive and vocal advocate for our children and will work to secure full funding for those schools and students currently being shortchanged. Learn more
Meg knows that renewable green energy is crucial for the health of our planet. In 2019, the legislature passed the historic Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act, which requires the Department of Environmental conservation to set critical greenhouse gas/renewable energy standards to address climate change. Gun violence rises in times of economic insecurity, so NYS must redouble its efforts to protect residents. Despite great strides towards gun safety, more remains to be done. Today, anyone can build an untraceable “ghost gun” from separate parts. Governor Cuomo has proposed banning individuals from buying significant components of a firearm, rifle, or shotgun online and prohibiting individuals who are forbidden to possess a firearm, rifle, or shotgun from owning a major component of these guns. Meg recognizes this and will advocate for further measures that are necessary to keep the people of her district and all New Yorkers safe from gun violence. Learn more
Meg believes that New York needs to do more to help mothers and babies survive childbirth. New York State has an unacceptable maternal mortality record: the rate is 30th in the nation and has doubled in the past 15 years. Every woman who dies in childbirth and every baby who is damaged by difficult labor and delivery is a tragedy. Meg will fight to develop a comprehensive plan to address this disturbing reality and ensure better outcomes for mothers and babies. Learn more
The coronavirus crisis exposed gig workers’ extreme vulnerability to unforeseen circumstances. Hard-working people who provide essential services need and deserve a safety net. Furthermore, public health suffers if some New Yorkers face the choice of working while sick or not being able to feed their families. On March 18th, the Assembly passed an emergency paid sick leave bill for employees in traditional jobs but left gig workers unprotected. Meg believes that now is the time for a comprehensive solution to protect all workers in New York. Learn more
