We know that early childhood education sets children up for long term academic success. Pre-K programming not only prepares students for Kindergarten, but also improves their lives permanently. Our district does a phenomenal job of providing pre-K services to our special education students, and we should be looking to this as a model of how to better serve all of our early learners here in Fairbanks. As a foster parent, I have become all too aware of the many ways that foster children are underserved and, frankly, often forgotten. Our school district has programs and passionate staff dedicated to serving these kids. Unfortunately, systemic failures at a much higher level than FNSBSD often leave staff to meet foster children's needs far beyond the scope of education. The McKinney-Vento and Foster Care Program staff deserve to be supported so that we can ensure that foster children in our district are being set up for success throughout every step of their academic careers. As a member of the Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce Education and Workforce Development Committee, I participate in regular conversations and advocacy dedicated to attracting and retaining a skilled Fairbanks workforce. Our community must have resources that appeal to prospective residents when they explore employment options. Public schools are one of the most important resources we can offer future residents and they should be funded accordingly. Learn more

Every student and staff member in our district deserves to be heard and respected. We cannot expect our students to learn or our staff to work in environments where they feel unsafe. Learn more
