Today, you can go in to every gas station and corner store in the inner beltway which are owned by individuals who live outside of our communities and find bongs and glass and plastic pipes used specifically for drug use. This disregard for decency in our community is a complete lack of respect for our children and residents. This problem is not consistent throughout the entire state, only in communities of color. To combat this issue I will endorse a bill to end the sale of drug paraphernalia in these stores whose main source of revenue does not come from that of loose Tabaco sales. Learn more
We all know that sometimes small businesses just cant handle every job. However, that doesn't mean they can't partner up with large business to get a piece of the work to one day grow into a larger operation. For large contracts, the federal government assures that a fair proportion of Government contracts in each industry category is placed with small business concerns. I will fight to have the State utilize the same federal model. Learn more
My goal is to retool eMaryland Marketplace to Maryland Business Opportunities and have all agencies, counties, municipalities, hospitals, and state colleges and universities house all of their opportunities in this one centralized location for small businesses to have a greater shot at competing for work, which turns into jobs for our communities. I will support a bill to endorse a mandated Statewide Early Children Education program that prepares our children starting at the age of 3. Funding school renovations in our District to provide high-quality learning environments. Our District is home to many schools that were built in the 60’s and 70’s. Largo, Forestville, and Central are our districts high schools that are in dire need. Learn more
Raising Salaries: The light through the tunnel is adequate salaries that match up with our neighboring counties like Montgomery County, to which we lose a lot of our teachers because of opportunities to make sometimes as much as 15K more a year. I will work with other legislators to conduct a study that is needed to determine how teachers across all counties can get additional funding to improve teachers’ salaries through The Geographic Cost of Education Index (GCEI), which adjusts school funding for educational cost differences across Maryland’s jurisdictions. Prince George’s County needs to see those funds to build inpatient facilities in the inner beltway communities to help those struggling the most. I will fight to make sure we get our fair share. Learn more
I will work to bring more outpatient facilities into the inner beltway communities through offering state grants and tax savings. Learn more
Maryland ranks 10th from last in the country in regards to doctors who accept new Medicaid patients. This is due to the states low payout to these already struggling small businesses. In order to truly impact change in medical access for those lacking access, we have to work to increase the payout to at least match our neighboring jurisdictions. Learn more
I will fight to secure medical training funds for existing and future healthcare workers to fill the healthcare jobs of tomorrow. Learn more
I support funding for critical road and transit improvements which are needed to relieve congestion and enhance capacity to foster future economic development. Additionally, I support the review of dedicated funding sources for transportation improvements and restoration of the Transportation Trust Fund. Learn more
I pledge to work with other state and local officials to ensure Prince George’s County receives its fair share of any STATEfunding. Learn more
Protecting Retirement Benefits: The light at the end of the tunnel is adequate retirement income. My grandmother is a 78 year old retiree who dedicated over 27 years of her life to the Prince Georges County School system, who retired from Forestville High School. People like my grandmother count on those retirement benefits to help them maintain a respectable way of life after serving their time to prepare future generations. Learn more
