Support for services when women are pregnant is also vital. I have advocated for women to have basic health care coverage during pregnancy. I have successfully supported pregnancy help for high-risk women, especially those struggling with addiction during their pregnacies. Learn more
We should encourage a system where parents know what is being taught to their children and have good alternatives available so they can determine what works best for their own family. Learn more
We should protect our teachers. We need to make sure that teachers have the same workplace protections as any other workplace. No teacher should be asked to continue in a setting where they are at risk of physcial harm or harassment. The legislature should not pass laws that add to the administrative burden that teachers have to bear. Learn more
I have worked to support changes to the way we use, measure, and conserve water so we can have enough to preserve a healthy Great Salt Lake. All of us stand to lose if the lake dries up. Learn more
Another part of the solution is to allow people to better control what goes on inside their own home. I am proud to have sponsored and passed legislation to allow much broader use of internal accessory dwelling units so people can share or rent space inside their own home. This is a very low-cost way of adding additional living spaces in our communities. Learn more
Over the last 10 years, housing prices have gone up much faster than how much people earn. Worse yet, housing prices in Utah have gone up faster than almost anywhere else in the country. If we don’t find a way to allow for the free market to build more affordable housing, it will be difficult for any of our children to start a family and own a home here. I do not think the solution to this problem is taking taxes from some people to subsidize other people. I think the solution is to remove bureaucratic barriers to the building of smaller, more affordable housing units. Learn more
