She is also working to make higher education more accessible for New Yorkers. She supports expanding eligibility for the Excelsior Scholarship and TAP, while supporting programs such as SUNY Reconnect that allow eligible adult learners to pursue degrees in high-demand fields without paying tuition, fees, or supplies. SUNY Reconnect was recently expanded in the 2026-27 Enacted Budget to cover additional job fields and SUNY institutions. Learn more
With Stony Brook University in the heart of the district, and Suffolk Community College not far away, Rebecca enthusiastically works alongside leadership at these institutions to not only support students, faculty, and staff, but to also connect our community at large to the incredible resources on these campuses. Protecting our children from the dangers of emerging technologies is also paramount: Rebecca has taken action by sponsoring and passing legislation to establish a five-year moratorium on the manufacture, sale, and distribution of chatbot toys in New York State. She has also supported the RAISE Act to promote transparency around AI-generated news content, and responsible safeguards for advanced AI systems and chatbots. Rebecca continues to engage in conversations with local teachers, administrators, and families about the use of technology by our youngest residents, and looks forward to shaping regulations to protect New Yorkers as we move together into the future.
