Get StartedWe also need to create security for Ohio workers by passing legislation to ensures that no worker can be fired from their job because of who they are. It's time for Ohio to protect workers by modernizing our anti-discrimination law to include the LGBT community. Education. Learn more
Together, we can and will build a system where defendants are freed on the least-restrictive conditions needed to ensure that they appear for later court appearances, where jails are not used as an alternative to mental health services, and where Ohio stops being the fourth state in the nation with the largest incarcerated female population. A constitutional education formula must not allow any school to suffer for another school to succeed. It must not make our children’s success dependent on their zip code, and it must care for our most vulnerable children without capping funding for our excellent schools. This is doable and has been done in other states when we stop using public money to fund for-profit schools. Learn more
Education is a fundamental right and provides our young people with the tools they need to achieve success and meaningful economic opportunities. Decades ago, the Ohio Supreme Court held our school funding formula unconstitutional. The current flat base per student formula does not sufficiently account for the cost of education, and the funding caps fail to account for growing student populations. This formula leaves many of our students behind, and harms both impoverished and wealthy school districts. Learn more

One of the major causes of algae blooms is fertilizer runoff. Learn more
Second, Ohio must do more, and can do more, to decrease the costs of healthcare for our residents, fund facilities for people with developmental disabilities, and increase access to mental health services and addiction treatment. Health complications and prescription drugs should not lead to our neighbors losing their homes, jobs, or sense of security. Decreasing healthcare costs will be my priority as your Senator. Third, Ohio must pass state laws prohibiting insurance companies from denying coverage to Ohioans with pre-existing conditions. We must provide healthcare for every person in our community, not only the ones who are in perfect health. As state senator, I will introduce legislation ending discrimination against patients with pre-existing conditions once and for all. Learn more
First, I will work to preserve the Medicaid expansion. I will also work hard to protect our most vulnerable from hurdles constructed to deny them healthcare coverage, such as work eligibility requirements. Such rules are crafted to hurt safety-net hospitals, community health centers, and community mental health centers. The reality is that the majority of Medicaid recipients in Ohio already work and those who don’t can’t. Creating greater hurdles for our most vulnerable through work eligibility requirements harms us all. A healthy workforce is a ready workforce. Learn more
I propose we make public transportation a permanent part of the transportation budget, and dramatically expand the options in public transit available to Ohioans, especially to serve our seniors and people with disabilities, as well as to bolster economic growth in our cities, and improve accessibility in our rural communities. Every person who works a full-time job must have a living wage. I will advocate and introduce policies to raise our minimum wage to $15 an hour, while allowing exemptions for small businesses. Learn more
