Get StartedOne of the core responsibilities of state government is to create the conditions for safe communities. As a senator, I commit to supporting law enforcement agencies by voting for laws that put the needs of families over offenders. Colorado is one of only a few states that has seen a double-digit increase in fentanyl deaths over the past year as the the national rate has decreased by 21%. In order to effectively address public safety measures, we must revisit our drug-possession laws. Learn more
The state should be a partner in addressing housing needs while respecting local control. One-size-fits-all policies and unfunded mandates place unfair burdens on municipal governments and create division rather than partnership. Legislators should tread carefully regarding the long-lasting impacts of municipal growth and development. The cost of everything from housing to energy to groceries is affected by Colorado’s burdensome regulatory environment. I’ll work to lift regulations and streamline processes in order to bring down costs without sacrificing essential protections. Every dollar of revenue from business and tourism reduces the tax burden on Coloradans and increases our quality of life. A strong economy begins with business-friendly policy. Learn more
As a father of three, improving education is one of my passions and will be a priority as a legislator. Colorado deserves a quality education system that benefits students, parents, and teachers. Students should be able to attend the schools that best suit their needs. Parents should be the primary decision-makers for their children. And teachers should be assured that education dollars are reaching their classrooms, not tied up in administrative growth. Learn more
Water is vital to Colorado. As our population continues to concentrate along the Front Range, the demands on our water supply will also grow. Conservation is undoubtedly an important piece of the puzzle. Beyond that, our only choices are to dry up farmland or store excess water during wet years. We need forward-thinking leaders who can balance impacts while planning for our future. State policies should be informed by the work of our regional experts, free from partisan conflict. Learn more
Colorado’s energy needs have increased with population growth and with the rise of AI and other high-demand uses. For this reason, I support an all-of-the-above energy policy. We must ensure affordable and reliable energy supplies throughout the state, regardless of weather conditions. Colorado is equipped to be a lead provider of clean, reliable, affordable domestic energy. In my first term, I led the charge on classifying geothermal as a clean energy source. Since that time, nuclear energy has been reclassified as well. Natural gas is cheap and plentiful in our state. The development of wind and solar has lessened our reliance on coal, but wind and solar require a lot of land and are not as reliable during periods of "dark calm." State energy policy should reflect our supplies and needs rather than being driven solely by a zero-carbon mandate. Learn more
I will always defend our constitutional freedoms, including the right to bear arms. While promoting firearm education, outdoor recreation, and safety, I will vote against any and all attempts to disarm citizens. Much of SD 15 is rural, rugged, and remote. In this type of environment, law enforcement agencies are unable to respond quickly in situations where lethal force may be warranted. Knowing that criminals break laws, we shouldn’t make it more difficult for Coloradans to defend their lives, families, and property. Learn more
Knowing that it’s a matter of when--not if--the next natural or manmade disaster will strike, the state must plan accordingly by using best practices. I will work to ensure that emergency funds are available, that our insurance policies are just, that our physical infrastructure can withstand extremes, and that our communication systems maximize public safety. Colorado is in the midst of a home insurance crisis driven by severe wildfires and hail. Addressing this crisis on a legislative level will require a thorough understanding of the insurance industry. Effective solutions should not lead to more bureaucratic growth; consumer needs must be balanced with an understanding of insurance markets. Learn more
Colorado ranks 46th in road quality nationwide, and regular maintenance is much more cost-effective than replacement. Over 200 million in annual transportation fees are collected from Coloradans, yet a significant portion is directed toward bureaucratic growth, environmental mitigation, and public transit rather than road repair--as our highways continue to crumble. Knowing that our transportation dollars should serve the needs of the entire state and that our economy relies on high-quality infrastructure, I will work to channel transportation funding back to roads.
