Get StartedSAFETY Students learn best when they can focus on their work free from distractions and when they don’t have to worry about their safety. Our schools provide both School Resource Officers and School Guardians to protect students. At the same time, we need to hold students to high standards of behavior. Student misbehavior in the classroom or on the bus prevents other students from getting the quality education they deserve. Classroom disruption, bus misbehavior, bullying—all these issues will continue to be addressed under my administration. Learn more
ELIMINATION OF 2-Mile RIDERSHIP I am opposed to the elimination of the 2-Mile Ridership. What is 2-Mile Ridership? Under state law, schools do not have to provide busing for any student who lives less than 2 miles away from school. Why do I oppose it? Simple. Eliminating the 2-Mile Ridership will endanger students in Citrus County. In Citrus County, this would mean that students would have to walk on roads or rights-of-way—often in the dark. That is not safe. True, it costs more money to provide busing for students within the 2-Mile radius; however, that is the right thing to do. The most precious thing parents have is their children, and we will always do what is best and safest for them. Learn more
CAREER / COLLEGE PATHWAY EXPANSION In today’s ever-changing world, it is critical that Citrus County Schools prepare students for life after high school. Citrus County Schools has worked diligently to offer more career pathways for students who want to be in “workforce ready” and provide more support for students planning to attend college. As superintendent, every 8th grade student will develop a plan for their high school career; our high schools will then offer support for their career goal. No matter what students plan to do after high school—college, trade school, job, or military—my administration will be dedicated to helping students find the path that is right for them. My motto for students is, “Your choice, your path, our future.”. Learn more
LOCAL CONTROL Citrus County Schools has a proud tradition of providing for the needs of its students and adjusting to the needs of its community. I believe that the people of Citrus County—the parents, the teachers, the students, and the community—are the best resource to guide the direction of our schools. One item our community faces is the increase in the number of students who vape. This year, we created an advisory group of students and community members to discuss ways to market messages to prevent students from starting to vape or find ways to stop vaping. This marketing message is currently in production with its primary message “QUIT THE HIT”! Learn more
FEDERAL CONTROL OF SCHOOLS I am opposed to excessive federal control of schools. I am opposed to outsiders who live thousands of miles away deciding what is best for students and families who live in Citrus County. The people who know what is best for Citrus County live in Citrus County. With that said, our school district will follow all laws that govern our functioning—from state laws on curriculum to laws on student data privacy (to name a few). Local decision making with family input will be a cornerstone of my administration. A successful school district is one that gives a voice to students, parents, teachers, and the community so that Citrus Schools can chart the best path forward. Learn more
EXCESSIVE SPENDING I am opposed to simply throwing money at a problem in the vain hope that it will be fixed. Solutions depend on listening, planning, organizing, and redirecting resources. My administration will be fiscally responsible and will spend money wisely. We will be detail oriented and think outside the box to solve challenges that translate to success. Whether it is busing, instructional materials, or teacher salaries, we will find solutions. Like all Americans must do, we will make our budget work for our district and for our community! Learn more
