On the whole, Kentucky needs to step back and make sure we set out educational standards based on understandings of developmental appropriateness. This starts with our early childhood education. While I’d think we need universal pre-k, we have to start by fully funding full day kindergarten as well as free and nutritious student breakfasts and lunches. In addition, the school day should be restructured based upon data driven studies of developmental best practices. This includes increased time for exploratory and experiential play and learning. When I was a brand new teacher, I thought that treating all of my students the same was fair; and, that if all they received was the same then they were all being served appropriately. As I matured, I learned that nothing could be farther from the truth. I learned that teaching each student based on their own unique and individual skill sets, talents, cultural backgrounds and experiences was the only way to be fair. That’s equity. Learn more

In the General Assembly, I will fight for policies that reduce our greenhouse gas emissions - including measures that regulate emissions, and resource extraction, support renewable energy, and support sustainable development. At home in District 29, I’ll work for common-sense projects that we can support as a community, such as community clean-ups, neighborhood beautification, and tree planting. Learn more
Caring for patients in pain, cancer patients suffering from nausea and treatment effects, and patients who experience seizures require medical marijuana to be legalized. Marijuana has been shown through research to be nonaddictive and nonlethal while easing pain, nausea and the incidence of seizure for these patients. For these reasons medical marijuana is also a tool for lessening the opioid crisis that has gripped our state. Learn more
Kentucky must return to the full medicaid expansion implemented under the Affordable Care Act that significantly increased the number of Kentuckians covered by health insurance as well as returning vision and dental benefits to those covered by the medicaid expansion plan. Learn more
