I have strived to achieve balance over the years when it comes to these projects, and fully understand that we need a mix of housing type here in Haverhill, from affordable to market rate rental units to new housing projects both small and large across the city. Learn more
I do think it is critically important that we start focusing on more middle income single family housing projects to better balance the composition of our population. Learn more
I will work with public officials and private developers to revitalize Merrimack Street with an eye toward attracting retail and commercial development. We must complete the transformation of downtown Haverhill to ensure that our downtown provides the jobs and tax revenues we need to support our entire community. Learn more
I believe the next downtown growth area will be Essex Street. In order to make this happen we need to find additional parking in the downtown area. A new parking garage on Essex Street could be a viable future option. Learn more
We also need to explore now adding two floors to the existing parking garage on Granite Street. I look forward to reviewing the five developers proposals for the area known as the Herb Goecke Parking Deck, which if brought to fruition, will bring transformational change to the Merrimack Street part of our downtown.
