Get StartedRepresentation and Opportunity for Every Student: Ensuring that CU leadership reflects and supports the full diversity of the communities it serves. Kubs is one of the rare minorities who grew up in Boulder, where his immigrant parents settled in 1979 when very few families looked like theirs. That experience shaped his understanding of what it means to navigate institutions that were not always designed with you in mind. He believes students from underrepresented backgrounds – whether defined by race, religion, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic status – deserve leaders who see their struggles, advocate for their success, and work to ensure that every student has the opportunity to thrive. Improving Student Success and Graduation Outcomes: Strengthening the systems that help students complete their degrees and realize the promise of higher education. Graduation rates at CU Denver and UCCS remain below 50 percent, and many of these students come from immigrant families or less-privileged backgrounds who see college as the gateway to a better life. When students take on significant debt but do not graduate, that promise can turn into a financial and personal hardship. Kubs believes CU must focus on targeted support, mentorship, and institutional accountability to ensure more students reach the finish line and succeed. Learn more
Preparing Students for the AI Economy: Ensuring that CU actively prepares students for the rapidly changing workforce shaped by artificial intelligence and technological disruption. As a technology lawyer, Kubs works at the forefront of how AI is reshaping industries and hiring practices. He sees firsthand that many employers who traditionally hire new graduates are beginning to scale back entry-level hiring. CU must confront this reality directly by expanding interdisciplinary training, strengthening career pipelines, and equipping students with the skills needed to compete in an AI-driven economy so that their investment in a CU education delivers real opportunity. Strategic Leadership in a Challenging Federal Climate: Providing steady, strategic leadership as universities increasingly face political and legal challenges from the federal government. Whether through funding pressures, regulatory mandates, or policy conflicts, higher education is entering a period of heightened confrontation with federal authorities. As a litigator with nearly two decades of experience advising institutions in high-stakes disputes, Kubs understands how to navigate adversarial environments, develop effective strategy, and protect the long-term interests of the university.
