Whether it’s combating anti-Asian hate crimes, discrimination against LGBTQ+ individuals, religious intolerance, or racism against black and brown communities, Sandra will be a steadfast advocate for civil rights for all New Yorkers. Sandra will make sure that the New York City Commission on Human Rights is funded and able to investigate and prosecute cases of discrimination. Learn more
Wraparound social services are critical, with many victims and survivors of domestic violence forced to choose between returning to their abuser or homelessness. Learn more
We must work to end inhumane policies that unfairly target black and brown New Yorkers, including by expanding elder parole and ending solitary confinement in all city jails. Learn more
Sandra will also prioritize expanding the definitions of domestic violence to include the multi-faceted forms of abuse that exist, including financial abuse. Learn more
Sandra will build on NYIFUP’s resounding success by continuing to expand the right to counsel, including for divorce and custody cases. Learn more
She will work to bring legal and business seminars to provide critical assistance to small business owners, and expand MWBE programs to help them access government contracts. Learn more

Sandra will be a constant and steadfast advocate for small business owners, and a central part of her platform will be securing multilingual Special Liaisons in the NYC Small Business Services (SBS), to help entrepreneurs navigate our complex bureaucracy in whatever language they primarily speak. Sandra will be an advocate for our Specialized High Schools and will work with our teachers and educational professionals to build a pipeline of opportunity for low-income and minority students who would like to attend a Specialized High School. Learn more
One of Sandra’s top priorities will be to open a new school in Flushing to help alleviate overcrowding in our schools. Learn more
Sandra supports expanding Gifted and Talented programs to more school districts, and will prioritize securing G&T programs for Flushing’s schools. Learn more
Sandra will advocate for an inclusive curriculum that includes LGBTQ+ rights pioneers and their struggle for civil rights. Learn more
Sandra will advocate for expanding free after-school programs for tutoring and homework assistance so that every child can succeed in the classroom regardless of their family’s income. Education starts early, and Sandra will fight to continue to expand NYC’s 3K program. Learn more
Sandra would invest in increasing the amount of green space across District 20, identify public buildings capable of utilizing their roofs for renewable energy or green roofs, prepare District 20’s sewage system to cope with increased stormwater, improve the cooling centers that provide a critical service to many low income residents and senior citizens and invest in STEM programming that will enable our students find jobs in emerging climate industries. The city must expand the number of trained and multilingual liaisons going to senior centers to assist residents with a range of issues, from understanding and paying bills to applying for government programs. Learn more
Sandra would also explore options to expand ESL classes for seniors and give seniors access to technology that can help them stay connected. Learn more
Sandra will build on the success of programs like Access NYC by making them more accessible to low income and ESL speakers who may lack access to the internet, and fight to expand these programs on the municipal level. Learn more
